How Much Does It Cost to Refelt a Pool Table?
Zachary LundtShare
If your game room's pool table has seen better days — worn spots, fuzzy pilling, or a felt that's lost its speed — refelting is usually far cheaper than replacing the table altogether. But pricing varies more than most homeowners expect, and getting it wrong (or hiring the wrong installer) can leave you with a table that plays unevenly for years.
Here's what actually drives the cost, and what to expect if you're getting your table refelted in Minot, Bismarck, or Dickinson.
What Does It Cost to Refelt a Pool Table?
Refelting costs vary quite a bit nationally depending on table size, felt quality, and whether you hire a pro or DIY it — figures online commonly range anywhere from $200 to $800+. Here's what it actually costs to have CAVES do it right, with no surprises on the invoice.
CAVES Refelting Pricing:
- In-city installation: $1,100 — includes standard felt and professional installation
- Standard felt: included in the base install price ($200–$300 value)
- Premium felt upgrade: add $400–$600 depending on grade
- Outside city limits: add a $300/hour driving fee based on distance from the shop
This covers full removal of the old felt, a fresh professional install, and a table that plays true when we're done — not a patch job.
What Drives the Price Up or Down
Felt grade. Standard felt is included in the base install price and covers most home game rooms well. Premium felt (wool or worsted wool blends) plays faster and holds up longer under heavy use, but comes at an upgrade cost.
Location. Jobs within city limits are covered under the flat $1,100 rate. For tables outside city limits, a $300/hour driving fee applies based on travel time to and from the shop.
Table condition. If your table has other issues — damaged cushions, loose rails, structural wear — addressing those during the refelt may add to the total. This is the best time to catch those problems, since the table is already being taken apart.
Is Refelting Worth It?
Refelting protects your table's performance and appearance, and for a table that gets regular use, it's a straightforward way to keep gameplay smooth and extend the table's life. If you're already dealing with a dead-feeling table or visible wear, it's almost always cheaper than buying new — even factoring in premium felt and professional installation.
Refelting a Pool Table in Minot
Minot game rooms see a lot of use, especially heading into the winter months when everyone's spending more time at home. If your table's felt is looking worn before hunting season or the holidays hit, now's a good time to get it scheduled — appointment slots tend to fill up as the weather turns. Tables within Minot city limits fall under our flat $1,100 install rate; if you're just outside city limits, ask about the driving fee when you request a quote.
Refelting a Pool Table in Bismarck
Bismarck homeowners building out a home entertainment or game room setup often ask about refelting alongside other upgrades — new lighting, a home theater refresh, or updated audio for the space. If you're already planning game room improvements, bundling a refelt in makes sense so the whole room gets a refresh at once. As with our other locations, in-city jobs are covered under the standard install rate, with a driving fee for anything outside city limits.
Refelting a Pool Table in Dickinson
In Dickinson, older tables — especially ones that came with a house or were bought secondhand — are the most common candidates for refelting. Before assuming a table needs to be replaced, it's worth having it assessed; in most cases, a refelt brings a tired table back to like-new condition for a fraction of replacement cost. Reach out for a quote and we'll let you know if a driving fee applies based on your location.
