J Pechauer Cues History
The story starts with a cue repair. Jerry Pechauer was an apprentice truck mechanic for the International Harvester Company in Green Bay, Wisconsin in 1961. During this time, he played a pool game with a co-worker, and he won a broken Willie Hoppe cue as a prize instead of accepting money.
Jerry may not have had all the knowledge he needed at this point, but he had the willingness to learn and a natural skill. Using a standard wood lathe that he modified (as opposed to using a proper cue lathe), he was able to create a suitable shaft, and then he used a drill press and lathe chuck to install joints. Jerry's passion for the game led him to develop a hobby that he later turned into a family business with his son Joe.
Over the years, they expanded their shop by adding custom designed equipment and CNC machines to produce their own parts, including a patented quick-release joint screw and shaft insert, making Pechauer cues 100% produced in-house.
In 2007, Joe Pechauer took over as President of the company, while Jerry continues to provide regular support and expertise. From having 58 dealers in 1993, they now have over 400 dealers worldwide, making J. Pechauer Custom Cues one of the top brands in the industry, all starting with that broken Willie Hoppe cue in 1961.
